Taking the Initiative for Wind and Wildlife

There are many factors involved in siting wind energy projects beyond wind speed, including environmental regulatory, jurisdictional, and financial considerations. AWWI is committed to building a body of peer-reviewed science and field-tested best practices that will inform siting decision-making, in order to avoid or minimize effects on wildlife and wildlife habitat.

Scientifically-based analysis that includes field or laboratory research, peer review, and publication provides a common ground for decision-making. Moving forward from shared understanding, conservation advocates, state regulators, and industry leaders can make better decisions that advance wind energy and benefit the environment.

How can AWWI help advance wind-wildlife knowledge? We believe progress depends upon focused research, improved analytical tools, and widespread sharing of results. We are moving ahead on five fronts to carry out our mission to:
