Who We Are

AWWI is a groundbreaking non-profit organization built on a strong partnership of leaders in the wind industry, science and environmental organizations, and wildlife management agencies.

Mission: To facilitate timely and responsible development of wind energy while protecting wildlife and wildlife habitat.

“We need massive amounts of wind power to stop global warming and one of the main reasons to stop global warming is the wildlife and wild places that are so important to our health, our culture and our economy. AWWI brings together leaders from the conservation community and the wind industry to work together identifying the solutions to deploying wind power while avoiding and minimizing its wildlife impacts.”
Nathanael Greene, Director of Renewable Energy Policy, Natural Resources Defense Council & AWWI 2016 Board Chair
“In order to mitigate the impacts of climate change we need more renewable energy, all while understanding and minimizing those impacts on wildlife. AWWI is a leader in providing objective science on the impacts of wind energy to ensure it can coexist with wildlife.”
Tom Hiester, Senior Vice President, Strategy, Americas, RES (Renewable Energy Systems) & AWWI 2016 Board Vice Chair

“AWWI is a unique institution that is playing a valuable role in enabling wind energy to grow responsibly. It is a place where NGOs, agencies, and industry can identify and address problems in a proactive, collaborative, and science based manner.”
Jim Walker, Vice Chair, EDF Renewable Energy & AWWI 2015 Board Chair
“The beauty of AWWI is that it affords a forum – based on science – where industry and ENGOs can come together and develop the relationships needed to solve wind wildlife challenges and ultimately get us to a sustainable future.”
Scott Davis, Director of Conservation, Central Division, The Nature Conservancy & AWWI 2015 Board Vice Chair
